892R Power Triode Vacuum Tube | ||
Specification sheets: Amperex or Machlett or RCA In my early 20's I worked as a transmitter plant engineer at WMPS AM 680/FM 98.1 in Memphis, Tennessee. The RCA 10 kW AM transmitter used two 892R tubes as final amplifiers and two more as modulators. Whenever the tubes in the RF stage started to degrade, they were installed into the modulator positions. Bad tubes were sent out for rebuild. Whenever a tube failed, a second engineer had to be on site to assure safe entry into the transmitter enclosure to swap tubes. The only time this happened to me was one morning when I let my wife push the button which changed power level and antenna pattern at dawn. Two modulator tubes blew out immediately. I called for backup, got out the spares, and got the backup transmitter on line. That was an exciting time. I would very much like to acquire a specimen of an 892R tube. Please let me know if you can help. |
