I was a member of Civil Air Patrol for a number of years, attaining the rank of Major in the Tennessee Wing Group 6 Staff.  I qualified as Mission Pilot, Air Operations Officer as well as Communications Officer.  I flew both of the CAP planes available in the Memphis area, a Piper Cherokee 140 and a Beech T34A Mentor.  I participated in many practice search and rescue exercised as well as as some of actual missions.  I flew cadet orientation flights as well as cross country flights in support of the CAP mission.  Along with other Seniors, I accompanied 65 cadets in a C-130 to Wright Patterson AFB to visit the Air Force Museum.
