Return to Gear

I never actually owned or used much Johnson gear.  It was very well known and certainly respected at the time I was first licensed in 1966, although the company had gotten away from Amateur Radio products.   I worked in a service shop that sold and serviced Johnson CB and commercial radios.   They certainly earned my respect.  A friend, Mike Dobson WA0WQI, worked for Johnson as a design engineer while they were still in the amateur business.  Mike told me that he was able to obtain some interesting items from the company surplus store.   He showed me the prototype Johnson SSB transceiver that he obtained there.   That has to be a rare rig!  It was never produced.
