Once I became well established as an Extra Class
licensee (plus First Class Commercial Radiotelephone with Ship Radar endorsement), I got a
part time job as a Citizens Band and monitor repair technician at Russ Hellen's CB Center
in Whitehaven, TN. All the guys there were hams and they were an amateur radio
dealer, carrying Hygain, Swan, Regency, Johnson and various accessory lines. When
Swan came out with the model 270 "Cygnet" transceiver, I was established
financially well enough to purchase one, the 270B model. This was a compact powerful
transceiver which had built in AC and DC supplies. I used a Shure 404C microphone
with it. It was a great old radio and I now have two of them. The main
difference between my original 270 and those I now have is that the power transistors for
the DC switching supply were built in vs. contained in an external module. I found a
Shure 404 microphome with the "Swan" logo to go with one of the units and a 444
desk microphone for the other. I also found a Swan dual meter SWR bridge to use with
them. For more info click here.
